So - the first game of the season and although Yorden was despatched to Australia by his unthinking employer at the last moment, we even had 11 players! After multiple promising appearances in the nets, Willem van Ekelenberg was given a "sabbatical" to watch Eindhoven v Helmond Sport in the play-offs....some people and their priority setting!
Robert Hall - captain - for the day - was instructed to win the toss and elect to bat. As usual, he did not listen, lost the toss but to our surprise MOP elected to bat anyway!
The MOP innings began with that icon of Dutch cricket Mr Steven Binns at the crease. Something was bound to happen and it did! Binns calls for a dodgy single behind the stumps, underestimates the cat-like athleticism of yours truly who throws the ball back to Remco, Remco hits the wicket with a direct shot from 6 inches and the umpires finger goes up! Binns is out for 9! Not that he wanted to accept the decision and kept on going on about it....as one of their players put it, "he will be going on about this for some time!" Unfortunately when he came in some time later he was still going on about it being not out! As you guessed, not a winner of the champagne moment!
We did however have a champagne moment from MOP! Toby Maessen playing at number 9 for MOP produced the first ever reverse sweep seen in Son!
In the mean time wickets were tumbling to our new finds, Akil and Ashkar and our other secret weapon of the slow devious ball Mr John Collett.....MOP all out for 64!

And wait for it! The first wide was recorded in the EIGHTH over! Must be a Son record!
With MOP only using 22 overs, tea was not taken and play continued.
SON INNINGS
Tony sometimes thinks he can make the 100m Olympics final when calling for a run....whoops, run out by 6 metres!
And the Remco tried to emulate his opening partner....how he was not run out will be a mystery for some time!
It was an uneven contest with Son coasting to 68 for 3 off 13 overs to win by 7 wickets....
Remco 13, Ashkar 32 not out and Akil 11 not out made double figures.
Not easy to work out who was man of the match on his debut for Son.....
And now minds turn to our next match - away to Feyenoord! Could Son v Feyenoord become one of those classic fixtures??
