Match report Son v Salland/MOP July 3rd
Posted by email
The day began very strangely indeed as I walked towards the pitch, BBQ in
hand.....it was 12:30, all the players were present and the pitch -
including the new mat lovingly marked out by Johan - had already been set
out! Even Fred had arrived before 12! Well done boys and keep up the good
work!! The outfield had been mowed Friday so a high scoring game was on the cards,
especially as the game in Salland had also delivered more than 400 runs! who
will ever forget Michiel's 107.....and Keith's 8 not out!! There was nothing left but for Yorden to win the toss and bat, which he duly
did! Things were going well....so far....
SON INNINGS And things continued to go well.....57 for no wicket in the 14th over before
Johan fell for 26....Steve, playing some good looking drives eventually went
on to make 44 - a good solid opening pair! Unfortunately the middle order
got bogged down and Son were unable to force the pace until Waqar - he of
the flashing blade - weighed in with a quick-fire 36 (four sixes!) ....
including 24 off the last over! Mr Extras also contributed with 35 and a Son total of 193 looked highly
defendable..... NORMAN LEIGHTON MOMENT A strange one this week, with the award being made between Innings to the
man himself! Yes, Norman was not only at the game, but also gave a display
of his batting skills against the devious spin bowling of yours truly and
Peter Browning and the wicket keeping of the Red Fox - Mr Hall - during the
interval! (Pictures attached!) The massed ranks of spectators - including
Gerard Meyer and Frank Mertens - were spell-bound by the skill and
athleticism being demonstrated!! SALLAND/MOP INNINGS Two words - Theo Sikkema. He who made 99 against us away, this time made 119
not out and the rest as they say is history......Salland reached the
required runs in 33.2 overs. ..... more line and length bowling practice
next Saturday (when the bowling machine will be available as well) CHAMPAGNE MOMENT Congratulations to Cor for getting to double figures for the first time and
ending 11 not out! BBQ For some the highlight of the day.....enjoyed by players of both teams with
various old players......how "gezellig" can you get! OK - we had hoped for a
better result, but that's cricket.....
